  • Can you please clarify the four pillars and how they relate to business success?

    First, all business is built on relationships .


    The most common frustration small business owners report is the inability to connect with people who are different than they are. This is backed up by the data. According to a study by The Chally Group, only 18% of customers report they will buy from a salesman whose personality does not match theirs, where 82% will purchase when personalities do match.   • Can you share your journey and what happened on the way that inspired you towards this purpose?

    Yes, and thanks for asking. I began my career as an instrumental music teacher for grades 4-12. I had some positional authority, but as a teacher of a subject that is clearly on a volunteer basis I was required to relate and sell the fun and value of playing an instrument to kids who were very different from 4th grade through Junior High/Middle School and then in High School. At the time I related the differences mostly to age, which was valid, and looking back I now realize they also responded differently based on their personality types.


    The good news is that I was very successful in that arena.


    The bad news is that it didn’t pay enough to live the lifestyle I desired for myself and my family. So, like many teachers, I took on side businesses to supplement my income. What I found was that I could sell to people who wanted to know a lot about what I was selling. That makes up less than 25% of the marketplace, so I ended up frustrated. I read every book on sales, listened to every sales guru on cassette, then DVD, then webinar I could get my hands on. I attended live seminars and then virtual ones.


    Finally, it was in 2018 that I learned that I had been asking the wrong question all along. I had already been certified as a John Maxwell Trainer…..but that still didn’t teach me how to sell courses or anything else. It was what I learned in April 2018 that changed everything, because the new business I started that month with my wife catapulted. My ability to complete the transaction with people of various personality types improved from a frustrating 45% to 98% and we built a team of 120 in six weeks. 


    The teacher in me determined that I needed to share the specialized skills that gave me my voice and my wings, and Top of Mind Guy emerged.


    Since then I’ve built on those skills with additional modes of communication and I’m excited to blend the modalities to raise your results and elevate you to the heights you dream of!
